Normally script code is run locally on the client (your computer), without using the server for processing data, the advantage is saving processing time and traffic on the network the downfall is less security (the user can view or . change the code).

When using Firefox you can download a small add-in that makes it even easier to turn script on/off.

Cookies are created by the server when a web page is opened by the user, but can also be created with script on the client.
